Haskell around the world

Haskell all over the world:

  • ikegami in #haskell reports that his copy of RWH arrived in Japan today (and looks to be #1 in language books on Amazon Japan at the moment).
  • doublec sent us the following photo of RWH on his laptop, phone and incarnated, from New Zealand
  • Jeff and Armand independently reported that RWH is making its way through Canada
  • Ganesh reported that Amazon.co.uk was now shipping copies again, after running out earlier this week.
  • And as the snow starts to fall here in Portland, Oregon, new copies have appeared at Powell’s Technical, after selling out earlier this week. Hooray!

It is not expected to arrive in Australia until next month (yes, you could order it over the internet, but I talking about the local supply chain), and when it does it is expected to cost $105.00 (Australian dollars).
Still, as HASKELL: THE CRAFT OF FUNCTIONAL PROGRAMMING by Thompson is currently priced at $119.95, it just goes to show that books on computing are relatively expensive in Australia, and have only got worse with the falling Australian dollar (it’s funny that the Australian dollar falls against the American, when it is the U.S.A. who has the major economic problem).

I’m in Saint-Petersburg, Russia; and I’m pleased to announce, albeit with a delay, that I got my copy about 2 weeks ago :)

Hi. I couldn’t find a copy of RWH in Glasgow yesterday, trying in two of the “big” bookshops. One of them said they’d have to order the book specially. Hey, surely there should be a copy in Glasgow, of all places?

There weren’t any copies in Nuremberg last week. I’m feeling there’s a big party going on, and nobody’s invited me.

    :-(

    Hey Alan.

Mike our editor has suggested that the most reliable (and possibly fastest) way to get hold of RWH in the UK is via oreilly.co.uk. Looks like stores didn’t quite expect the demand (similar situation in the US too, with many sold out locations).

    Hi,
    Nobody from Australia here again,
I finally gave up. The Australian supplier still doesn’t have a copy – O’Reilly, that sucks. I ordered one from Amazon.ca. At ~$60 it was substantially cheaper than the $105 quoted by the local supplier.
