I just got an email today from Amazon saying that my pre-order shipped, with an estimate that it’ll arrive next week! I can’t wait to sit down and start reading this.

Congratulation on completing the book, I’ve already pre-ordered my copy from amazon.co.uk.

What technologies were used in the production of the physical book, HTML and ebook?

I assume that the physical book, HTML and ebook are all generated from the same source. Is that source reStructured text, or some other format?

Mine shipped, to arrive on Friday the 28th.
Dang holiday is getting in the way!

@chris The book was authored in DocBook (some of which was generated). The manuscript was typeset into PDF using customizations on top of the open source DocBook-XSL project’s stylesheets. In a similar way, ePub and HTML files were prepared using customizations on DocBook-XSL. The mobipocket file was prepared from the ePub by mobigen_linux.

While reStuctured text is great for generating documentation efficiently, it lacks the rich markup necessary to describe long, complex works like Real World Haskell.

I know were not supposed to judge a book by its cover,
but that is one UGLY critter for such a beautiful language
