Real World Haskell, The Book, Available for Pre-Order
July 8th, 2008 by John Goerzen
I’m happy to announce that several booksellers now have Real World Haskell available for pre-order.
Here are some handy links:
Powell’s Books
Borders
Barnes and Noble
Amazon
And finally… that handsome cover (visible at Amazon) features a rhinoceros beetle.

Nice. I guess I know what I’ll be doing in a few seconds.

Do you know if O’Reilly plans to sell this book in PDF format?
Same question here. I would go for the PDF edition in the first place if it’s available at all.
Seconded, thirded and fourthed about the PDF version!
I really want the book, but i just can’t carry books around with me everywhere, so i’ve started to buy PDF’s instead
And don’t give me “Safari version available”. It’s completely useless on planes or the London Tube, where there’s *no* internet connection, and where I’ve usually nothing better to do than read a book.
I checked with our editor on a PDF edition. The preliminary word is that it would “almost certainly” be available.
Thanks for looking into this John, this is good news.
I would pre-order now the PDF version if I could.
I live outside the US, (Sweden) and would love to get my eyes on this book, however, shipping costs and customs always take their share.
A PDF version would not only enable more of us to buy the book (via Amazon or wherever) but also carry it around in our portable ebook readers (and laptops).
Keep us posted about the PDF version!
Best regards

Good job. I already preordered the book.
We’ve been asking around inside of O’Reilly. They don’t release all titles as PDFs, but this one seems a likely candidate. Thanks for asking!
Concerning PDF Books, aren’t you afraid about piracy?I mean almost every book that has been released under a PDF or CHM format has been pirated and can be downloaded for free..If I were you I wouldn’t risk it..anyways that is great news :-)..preordering for sure..
Amazon: “Better Together: Buy this book with Anathem by Neal Stephenson today!” Did you guys suggest this pairing?
I’m an on-again off-again Safari subscriber. Month by month, one gains tokens for downloading PDF segments of books, chapter by chapter. Chapter lengths are an author-determined historical accident, with authors oblivious to this unintended consequence as they write, so the “value” that PDF tokens represent varies wildly from book to book. In the grand scheme of things, RWH is lots of little chapters, and will take many months to earn enough credits to download.
Worse, the Safari production values of chapter PDFs are hideous, particularly the font used for code. I’ve complained and had my emails noted, but nothing changed. Were I an author, I’d insist on approving these production values, though the conversion may be automated and beyond author control.
On the good side, some newer books have an online viewing option that faithfully represents the printed page, which is generally a vast improvement on Safari’s online defaults, which are also enormously painful. I’d ask for this, for RWH.
